Android Digital Camera Review And Comparison

What Android Digital Camera Offers Others Cameras Do Not

We all know that digital cameras represent the term, "click and shoot" as they are easy to carry around, but what's missing is the ability to share or store pics and videos instantly in the Internet. While I do confess that there are available Wifi ready digital cameras or what they call "Smart Cameras", Android Os cameras have something more to offer. The ability to edit pics and videos using any Android apps, use cloud storage of your own choice, play games, email or Skype and even upload/share those pics to any website you want without having to be restricted to Facebook or Twitter on those so called "Smart Cameras".

The Samsung Galaxy Camera GC100 is the best Android digital camera available in the market. Samsung has really outdid themselves with this camera. They somehow combined a digital camera and a smartphone all in one gadget.

First, lets review the camera part of this digital camera. Samsung Galaxy Camera boast 17 megapixels with 21x zoom. While the megapixel offered might be average when compared to other digital cameras, the zoom magnification is one of the highest being offered without going to your Dslr cameras. Modes and effects being offered are top-notch and people can choose auto, basic or expert mode for people who have a good knowledge on how a camera works.

I have used other digital cameras mainly from Canon and in my opinion, the Samsung Camera GC100 is the easiest to use especially on how easy it is to understand how the modes and effects works. Among the usual modes, what stands out for me is the Panorama mode that automatically detects if your angle is a bit wrong and the best face mode that choose the best pic with the best faces, The light trace mode on which you can do light effects which you only create on dslr cameras before. Without even having to go to your Android apps, this camera have an edit feature on its own, it is a bit simple and only offers simple tools like cut, crop or brightness. Some camera features can use the Wifi/3G capabilities but not all can use it.

Now lets review the Android part. Imagine having a Samsung Galaxy S3 that have no text and call feature. That is basically what you get on this digital camera. With having a Quad-core processor and Android 4.1.1 Jellybean, you can get all the apps you need including games and messaging apps like Skype.

In my opinion, it is one of the best digital cameras available, but there are some flaws on the combination itself but not necessarily the camera. Because of using apps other than native apps on the camera itself, battery life would suffer. The big HD resolution touchscreen didn't help either, But that does not mean you would need to run to the nearest socket/charger whenever you use it. It just means that battery life would be lower when compared to other digital cameras with no Android OS.

There is absolutely no way you can compare this camera to the Samsung Camera GC100. It is like comparing Samson to Goliath, but don't get me wrong. The camera features are great and 16 MP is comparable to the Samsung GC100, but the Android part is horrible. With having the old Android 2.3 OS, some apps will not be compatible. It has only 1 Ghz processor so some apps would be running slow especially the editing apps. Forget games as you will not run the intensive ones.

You would only consider this digital camera if you are not willing to spend the additional $150 for the Samsung Galaxy Camera. I am not saying it is a bad camera, all I am saying is they should have made the Android part better.

The Future

There might be only 2 Android digital cameras available now, but in the future, there would be more.
