- Is the camera easy to use? Those who know little to nothing about photography will definitely want a camera that has an intuitive menu, an auto mode, and few manual controls to worry about.
- Does the camera provide decent image quality? Of course, compact cameras in this price range will rarely perform well above ISO 400, but you want to be sure that the pictures it takes at ISO 100-200 are clear, detailed and balanced in terms of colour and exposure.
- Does the camera provide lots of features and effects? Since photography is a form of light-hearted entertainment for many teenagers and kids, features and effects can be a nice bonus. There is nothing more enjoyable than creating 3D images, panoramas, or motion images for photographers in this age group.
- Is the camera fast enough? Once again, you won't find many fast cameras under $150, but you don't want to be waiting for seconds between each shot you take either. Make sure your camera has a decent speed, or you'll end up frustrated.
- Is the camera compact and lightweight? Many casual photographers, and professional photographers as well, believe that the more lightweight a camera is, the better. After all, who wants to lug around a massive piece of equipment if an equivalent model half the size is available?
