Best Point And Shoot Digital Camera under 200
Camera Review: Nikon COOLPIX S3100
Point and shoot camera

There is a good reason this is the best selling compact camera - it is slim and elegant and packs quite a wallop in quality photographs. Nikon combines their usual great technology with ease of use in this camera that is small enough to carry in your pocket, ready to capture every memory. The COOLPIX S3000 was Europes best selling compact camera in 2010 and the S3100 continues to build on that success. The camera has plenty of cool features that automatically capture the very best image and it has a great video function for making your own movies. Included is Nikon's Smart Portrait function that recognises faces and will take the shot when your subjects smiles, will warn you if she/he blinks and correct red-eye. The manufacturer spotlights its "features like Smile Timer, Blink Proof and Skin Softening to ensure everyone is smiling, no one is blinking, and everyone looks their best." You can even edit your photos using their smart filters and easy to see LCD screen.
The camera has 14 megapicles for sharp photos and a wideangel 5x zoom lens. the LCD screen is large enough and bright enough for composing and editing, even on sunny days, and the camera has a geat video function with sound. Nikon's Vibration Reduction guards against camera shake and there is a Subject Tracking Autom Focs to keep it all in focus. It also has a high ISO for shooting in low light. In all, this is a slim and elegant camera with enough functions and with great quality that is sure to please everyone short of the professional photographer.
You are sure to find something to suit every personality in one of the seven colours available: purple, red, black, blue, pink, citrus yellow and silver, to suit any taste or personality.

This would make a great first camera for someone! It is really easy to use and has plenty of automatic settings to capture a perfect pictures every time. The camera settings automatically detect motion and has an electronic vibration reduction which will eliminate camera shake and blurry photos. It shot 10.1 megapixels for sharp photos and included is the Smart Portrait System with a smile timer and skin softening to make everyone look good. The camera has a 5x optical zoom lens with a wide angle lens for great landscape shots. Nikon guarantee a hazzle free operation with big buttons that are easy to see and easy to operate. The one downside I see with this camera is that it takes AA batteries rather than having a rechargeable battery which can be a pest if you are taking a lot of photos, but you can overcome that by carrying extras with you and they are easy to source no matter where you are away from home. There is a bright 2.6 inch LCD monitor screen with an anti-glare coating so you can see your composition well even in bright sunlight. The camera automatically adjusts for different light situations so this really is the ideal first camera.
Samsung
for around 90

This is another really slim camera to slip in your pocket but with 12.2 megapixels and 4x optical zoom this little camera has plenty to offer. The 'Smart Auto' function has advanced scene recognition so the camera will select the right setting for every shot. The manufacture tells us it comes with a true colour filter. The LCD screen is perfect for composing your photos. Built in motion detector and digital image stabilisation to reduce camera shake and blurry photos. The camera will compensate in low light situations. Samsung's Smart Auto feature takes all the guesses out of photography and will pick just the right setting for focus, colour, brightness and motion. Also includes a video recording function with in-camera editing facilities. As per standard, this camera has a Smart Portrait function that will recognise faces and warn you when they blink or move. In addition the camera also smooths out skin tones and corrects red eye for perfect shots every time.
