Best Digital Cameras for YouTube Videos 2013

Sony DCR SX45

A great option for less than $150

Sony DCR
This Sony DCR-SX45 gives you a 3 inch LCD touch screen and features a built in LED video light. The Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar lens was designed just for small camcorders. It also incorporates SteadyShot image stabilization so you don't end up with blurry pictures.

You have a ton of options for scene combinations, 36 to be exact, so you get the best pictures every time. It took awhile for me to navigate all options and learn which ones produced which effect but once I got the hang of it, it was very fun. I like that it has a zoom lens but also a built in zoom microphone so hearing your subjects is easier than ever.

The face detection works like a charm and even makes skin tones look more flattering. It comes with a USB cable for easier file transferring, includes Sony PMB software which gives you a way to organize your images. If you are used to HD quality, then you might be disappointed in this product since the images won't match up to HD very well. For average users though, this ends up being a good product for the price.

Samsung MV800 Digital Camera

Affordable and User Friendly

samsung
The Samsung MV800 Digital Camera is a highly rated little thing. This tiny camera is good for small pockets or purses. It features a 26mm wide angle lens with a 5x optical zoom.

It comes with a 3 inch flip out display that lets you take pictures from nearly any angle; the LCD can rotate from 0 to 80 degrees so you get the shot you want even if it isn't in the ideal spot. For instance, you can hold it up high and get a shot from over the heads of a crowd or you can take very nicely framed self portraits.

There are three different shutter options as well to give you more versatility. I think the best feature is being able to pause recording without having to take a whole new video. A drawback to this is that low light pictures are really bad, but with photo editing software nowadays, you can lighten those up easily. This is a very affordable and user friendly camera that you will enjoy when shooting your YouTube videos.

Fujifilm FinePix S4000 Digital Camera

Fujifilm
Next up is the Fujifilm FinePix S4000 Digital Camera. With this device you get 14 megapixels and a 30x zoom lens which is very nice for taking shots when your subject is very far away. The display is an LCD 3 inch and it features an electronic viewfinder.

I was most impressed with the panoramic shots that took very smooth big pictures. This camera also requires an HDMI cable that is not included, for easier viewing on your HD device. It has smile and blink detection to make sure you get a good shot every time. With a warning sound, the camera will let you know if one of your subjects have blinked so you can take another.

I also really liked the image searching function. Once you tag and name 8 of your most frequent subjects, the camera will recognize that person in every photo taken from that point forward. This helps you narrow down your search when looking for a specific picture. I think the biggest drawback to this camera is how slow the response time is. This makes it hard to catch kids, sports or animal life but other than that, the camera has held up under rugged use and is very user friendly.

Nikon Coolpix S8000 Digital Camera

Nikon
YouTube filmmakers also use this Nikon Coolpix S8000 Digital Camera as well. This camera features 14.2 megapixels that make beautiful prints up to 20x30 believe it or not. It's got a wide angle 10x zoom with a glass lens. You get a 3 inch LCD color display that makes playback a nice experience.

I like how the screen still shows the picture clearly even in bright daylight. This camera does take HD video and you can get up to 1.5 hours of movies. HDMI output gives you very nice playback on a TV or computer. The face detection and skin smoothing technology in this camera is one of the best I have found thus far. It can detect as many as 12 faces in the shot and it automatically adjusts the focus and exposure.

I also like that it has a red eye fix feature that fixes it before it saves the image to the memory. I noticed that the shutter can be hard to press at times and my finger gets in the way of the flash. This camera also comes with its own camera bag.

Flip UltraHD Video Camera

Very Small and Compact

Flip Ultra
Flip UltraHD Video Camera is a high definition camera. You get up to 2 hours of HD video on this device. It is so user friendly; you simply push the big red button to begin recording.

The design of this model is slimmer than ones before so it is more compact for you and easier to travel with. You get FlipShare software with it as well that lets you edit your images, send greeting cards or create custom movies. I must say, this feature was very entertaining for me and my family appreciates all that I've been able to create with this software.

You can hook this up to your HDTV with a micro cable so you can enjoy your videos on a bigger screen. It comes with a rechargeable battery pack, a wrist strap, soft protective case and a user guide. I wish that the case was more rugged to protect from being banged on and dropped but I just use an old camera bag for it. I've noticed that this camera does not take the best images in low light or with fast moving objects. But for fun and quick videos, this works fairly well.
